MultiTerminal

Support

MultiTerminal requires macOS 14 Sonoma or later. A workspace brings terminals, live read-only file previews, and embedded browsers together in flexible splits and tab groups.

Windows and Linux versions are planned.

A workspace in four steps

  1. Create and rename a workspace for your project.
  2. Use + to add a Terminal, File Preview, or Browser. New panes split the focused region.
  3. Set starting folders for your terminals, choose a file to preview, or enter a website or localhost address in a browser pane.
  4. Drag tabs to an edge to split, or to the center to group. Drag dividers to resize. Use a group handle to move all its tabs, or pane menus for equivalent move commands.
Do processes keep running when I switch tabs?

Yes. Sessions already started in open workspaces remain alive while you switch tabs. Closing a pane, closing its workspace, or quitting the app stops its sessions. Background jobs that a tool deliberately detaches can have a separate lifetime.

What is restored when I reopen a workspace?

Workspace names, pane types, files, browser URLs, nested splits and percentage sizes, tab order and selection, starting folders, and themes are saved. Browser profiles retain logins per workspace. Reopening starts fresh shells; commands, running jobs, and terminal output are not restored.

Does MultiTerminal include Codex or Node.js?

No. Install and configure your own tools. Any tool requiring an account or paid service keeps its own requirements. MultiTerminal does not provide AI credits or a bundled AI subscription.

Which files can I preview?

Images, PDFs, rendered HTML and Markdown, text and source files, plus additional formats through macOS Quick Look. Previews refresh after external edits and do not edit the source file. Text and Markdown support UTF-8/UTF-16 files up to 10 MB. Use Reload to refresh manually. In sandboxed builds, Allow Asset Folder authorizes nearby images and styles.

How do browser panes work?

Enter an HTTP/HTTPS address or a local address such as localhost:5173. Use back, forward, reload, or Open in Default Browser. New-window links open as tabs in the same group. Panes share cookies and logins within a workspace, with separate profiles between workspaces. Closing retains the profile; deleting the workspace removes it.

How do I install MultiTerminal?

Download the official DMG from this website, open it, and move MultiTerminal to Applications. MultiTerminal is proprietary software, free for personal and commercial use. Source code is not publicly distributed.

Can I get it from the Mac App Store?

The Mac App Store edition is in preparation and still needs sandbox compatibility validation. A link will appear here when it is available.

A folder or command is unavailable

Confirm the folder still exists and select it again from the pane menu. Check that the command is installed and available to your login shell. In the sandboxed build, close and reopen the workspace after granting a folder; selecting a folder does not grant permission to execute arbitrary tools from it.
